Talks. Panels. Workshops. School Visits.

Here are some topics I’m happy to speak about! These can be in-person or virtual and perfect for all ages.

Writing for the right age: From middle-grade to adult fiction, how different is the writing process and how can we capture the right topics of interest for our intended audiences? This can also include the different marketing strategies in promoting your books.

Diversity and Representation in books: Why is this important? How can we use our own unique experiences to tell a story? How can we ensure sensitivity when writing about other cultures and experiences? I will share my experiences as a sensitivity reader for other authors and also my own experiences engaging other sensitivity readers from the Wales, South Asia and West Asia.

Crafting my books: From research to writing to publishing. This will cover my writing process and the inspiration(s) behind my stories!

Creative Writing: Who can tell a story? Why are stories important? What are the building blocks for a compelling story? How can we draw on our own experiences and interests in our writing? This will also cover an overview of what makes a fiction story, popular genres and what are some challenges faced by diverse authors writing for a global audience.

Social and Climate justice in books: Is this a thing? How can we use books to talk about social issues such as inequality or climate change? What are some books and genres that do this very well?

How to select books for children: A guide for teachers, librarians and parents. This will centre around selecting books for storytime both in a public setting and at home; the challenges of selecting books when English isn’t your first language (but also on bilingualism!), how different book genres can support your child to navigate their emotions and the importance of diversifying your book collection.

Libraries as a resource for writing: Does being a librarian make writing easier? How can we make the best use of library resources - both physical and online collections to write stories?

The influence of Booktok: This will look at the way booktok (on the Tiktok App) has propelled many self and indie-published authors while simultaneously reviving reading for pleasure amongst young people. What genres work best on this platform, who are some creators you should follow and how can authors leverage on booktok?

If you’d like me to talk about something else, I’m very happy to do so! Do get in touch.
